A message from Foodbank:
"Please could you pass on our grateful thanks to all individuals who support us throughout the year. It is good to have supermarket collections and donations from harvests but the regular weekly donations are what gives us the stock to fill the Centres all year round. Without that we would be plagued by shortages and anxious moments!!"

On behalf of everyone at Freedom from Torture, I am writing
to thank you very much for your recent kind donation of £209.40 in total from
the Christmas card sales, donation and sales of your preloved bags. It is brilliant
to receive your various donations, and we are incredibly grateful for your
continued support.
It is only through donations like yours, that we can give torture
survivors the support and care they desperately need. Gifts like yours mean
they can begin to heal. Your support will enable survivors to spend time with
our doctors and therapists, and take part in creative groups like gardening,
art or bread making.
One survivor you have helped is Faryad, who takes part in
our creative writing group Write to Life. Faryad said: “The group has helped me
to begin writing again, helped me to begin recovering myself. The group members
have become my friends and my family, and I have a place where I can relax, be
myself, and share my worries. To find such warmth and care in a place so far
from home, in a culture so different from my own, has saved my life. ”
Thank you `for working so hard to ensure Faryad continues to
increase his confidence, taking further steps to recover from the torture he
endured. I hope you can pass on our warmest thoughts to everyone involved in
your wonderful fundraising activities.

An end of year update
The last few months seem to have been particularly busy at the surgery. We have said good bye to a number of staff in the last couple months:
Lindsey our Practice Manager who had been at the surgery for the last 10 years has moved on to work for Lewisham CCG.
Bobby our reception manager is now working at the Princess Royal University Hospital.
Natalie has moved away and is training to be a Funeral Director.
We wish them all the very best in their new careers.
We have welcomed in some new staff:
A new Practice Manager, Craig Stanley who has come to us from a practice in Chatham.
A new clinical coder, Sally and two new receptionists, Tidkida and Annette whom some of you may already have met.
Our ramp access is now complete - please let reception know if you need access to the surgery this way. The front door, which was damaged by a patient, is due to be replaced very shortly.
The surgery is in the process of having WiFi installed and we will let you know as soon as it is available for you to use.
We are meeting with the CCG later this month to discuss how we might be able to move our application for new premises forward. We are warned not to get too excited but any discussion can only be helpful.
We continue to strive to improve the uptake of electronic access to appointment booking and prescriptions. We are currently at 27%. If you would like to be able to book online; to access your notes and results or to request repeat prescriptions electronically - please speak to reception who can issue a pin number and password unique to you. (You will need to provide ID).
If you would like to contribute to developing the practice please consider joining the Patient Participation Group. You can contact our PPG chair for further information by clicking on this link PPG Chair.
Finally - you will be pleased to hear that we have already booked the church rooms for next year's flu clinics - so we will be back to usual for 2018!

The Bromley Homeless Shelter is now open
The Winter Night Shelter opened last Wednesday and had a busy start. During the first 10 days, the average bed occupancy was 84%. Last year for the first 10 days occupancy was 67%. They are now full and expect it to stay that way. Thanks to support from so many kind people and many volunteers, we are now in a strong position to help change people's lives. The advice service continues apace; in fact, it's swamped. There are so many people in need of help.

Are you a good cook with some spare time?
Bromley Homeless shelter opens this week. They are looking for volunteers to cook on Thursday evenings at the United Reformed Church (URC) in Widmore Road, Bromley on a rota once every 2 to 4 weeks. Cooks helpers are also required.
Volunteers can speak to Anne on 07860 100201 for more information.

A huge thank you to the children, their parents and the staff at Bellissima Nursery who collected two large crates of food for the food bank.
In the run up to Christmas the items that foodbank most require are:
men's and ladies toiletries such as shower gel and shampoo and household goods - toilet rolls washing detergent, washing up liquid, nappies, 10p bags for life, coffee and desserts.
As ever these can be delivered to reception at the surgery or left at Sainsbury's Station Road, West Wickham. Alternatively donations can be delivered to the food bank at the United Reformed Church (next to Boots) Widmore Road, Bromley BR1 1RY on Tuesdays between 10am and 2pm or Thursdays between 12 noon and 4pm.

Bromley Homeless Shelter
A massive thank you for your support and sponsorship for the sleepout. The evening was a great success. Twenty nine of us slept out dotted about the churchyard. It was a wet night but our spirits were still good the
next morning.
My sponsors pledged a massive £730.01 (and there is still time to add to this 🙂)Overall donations have exceeded £10,600 and it has spread the word about the issues of homelessness. Please keep the homeless in mind as we approach winter and thank you again on behalf of the shelter's guests and clients.
